LAS VEGAS — Sen. Harry Reid challenger Sharron Angle will exhibit greater appeal to her state’s Hispanic base over the next two months, a group of her supporters said Thursday.

The Republican, while critical of illegal immigration, understands the outreach necessary with fewer than 60 days to the general election. Nevada saw a large increase of registered Hispanic voters during the months leading up to the 2008 presidential election, according to research done by Democracia USA, based in Miami.

Angle’s camp says the candidate will soon air Spanish-language television and radio advertisements.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid may have to work much harder at winning support from Hispanic voters. Last month he publicly said, “I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican, okay. Do I need to say more?” The soundbite provoked negative reaction around the country, and could return to haunt the incumbent.

“It’s going to take a lot more than a simple apology from Harry Reid to erase that blunder,” Evan Shertzer, a local Angle event organizer, told Your Politics News.

Sharron Angle supporters hope the candidate will win an endorsement from Nevada’s Republican gubernatorial candidate, Brian Sandoval, a Hispanic.
